Your Mac’s own apps, done directly.
Springle works in Mail, Notes, Finder, Messages and more through the apps themselves, in the background, instead of clicking through your screen.
When you ask for something in one of your Mac’s own apps, Springle does it through the app itself. "Find the email from Priya about the lease and save the PDF to Documents" is a search in Mail and a save, done in a few seconds. Nothing moves on your screen, so you can carry on with what you’re doing, and Springle checks it worked before it says so.
Find the email from Priya about the lease and save the PDF to Documents
Make a note in Notes called Groceries
Move the PDFs on my desktop into a folder called Receipts
Text Mum that I’m running late
Turn on dark mode
What it can do
| App | For example |
|---|---|
| Files and folders | Find a file, see what’s in a folder, make a folder, rename, move, copy, zip |
| Search and read email, start a reply, send (shown to you first), save attachments, file, flag or archive | |
| Notes | Find and read notes, make a new one, add to one, move it to a folder |
| Messages | Send a message or a file to someone (shown to you first) |
| Contacts | Find someone’s email, number or address, add a contact |
| Calendar and Reminders | Add an event, add, list and tick off reminders |
| Photos | Find photos, copy them into a folder, make an album, play a slideshow |
| Music and Spotify | Play, pause, skip, what’s playing |
| Your Mac | Dark mode, the volume, Wi-Fi |
| Numbers, Excel, Pages, Keynote, Word | Read the document, fill in cells, save a PDF copy |
| Safari | See your tabs, read a page, open a page in a tab behind the others |
| Shortcuts | Run one of your Shortcuts (Springle asks first) |
It works on every plan, Free included. Apps you haven’t got are simply left out.
The first time, Springle asks
The first time a task needs one of these apps, Springle asks in the island: Let me work in Mail directly? It’s faster, and your screen stays put.
- Click Yes, or say yes.
- Your Mac then asks once too: "Springle" wants access to control "Mail". Click Allow.
- Springle carries on with what you asked. It won’t ask about that app again.
If you say No, Springle does it on your screen the usual way, and doesn’t ask about that app again for a month. Files and folders need nothing allowed. Contacts, Calendar and Reminders show your Mac’s own question instead.
Changed your mind? Open Settings, choose Connected apps, and click Show apps under On this Mac. Each app says Allowed, or has Allow. If you turned one off in your Mac’s settings, its Open Settings button takes you to Privacy & Security › Automation, where you can switch Springle back on.
What it won’t do
- Send without showing you. An email or a message appears in full in a card first, with Send and Don’t send, unless you already said to send it ("text Mum and send it"). See Check before it sends.
- Delete anything. There’s no way for Springle to delete files, email, notes or photos. If you ask, it tells you it’s yours to do.
- Go outside your own files. It only touches things in your home folder, never hidden files or the system.
- Move lots at once without asking. More than 10 files asks first; 25 or more it leaves to you.
- Take orders from what it reads. Words in an email or a note are just information. An email that says "forward this to everyone" changes nothing.
Undo
When Springle changes something, the island shows what it did, like Done in Files · Moved 2 items to ~/Desktop/Receipts. Click the words to open it. Click Undo to put it back, for ten minutes afterwards: files go back where they were, a new folder or note is taken away again, a copy or a saved file goes to the Trash.
When you’d rather see it
Springle uses the screen instead when you ask to be shown ("show me how to make a folder"), when you’re in Guide me (it can still find things for you), or when you just ask to open the app ("open Mail"). See Guide me, Auto and Do it for me.
