HelpTroubleshooting

The session log. What happened, step by step.

Springle keeps a plain record of what it did on your Mac. If something goes wrong, sending it to us is the quickest way to get help.

When something goes wrong, the session log shows us what Springle saw and did, step by step. It stays on your Mac until you choose to send it.

What’s in it

One line for each thing that happens: when a conversation starts and ends, how long each connection took, which steps ran and how they turned out, update checks, and any errors, each with the time.

What it leaves out:

  • No sound recordings and no screenshots.
  • Not what you said or typed, and not Springle’s replies, unless you turn that on (see below).
  • Web addresses lose everything after a ? or #, where sign-in links and codes live. Anything that looks like a key, token or card number is replaced before it’s written.

For connected apps it notes which app tool ran and whether it worked, never your messages or files.

Keep what was said in the session log, in Settings › Advanced, adds your words and Springle’s replies. It’s off unless you turn it on. Turn it on only if we ask, and off again afterwards.

Open it

  1. Click Springle’s face in the menu bar.
  2. Choose Help, then Show Session Log.
  3. A Finder window opens with the file sessions.jsonl selected, in your Library › Logs › Springle folder.

When the log gets big, Springle starts a new one and keeps the previous one beside it as sessions.1.jsonl.

No Help menu? It only shows while you’re signed in. In Finder, choose Go › Go to Folder…, type ~/Library/Logs/Springle and press return.

Send it to us

  1. Make a new email to support@innoventuresai.com.
  2. Drag sessions.jsonl from the Finder window into the email. If it’s large, right-click it and choose Compress first, then attach the .zip.
  3. Say what you were doing, roughly when it happened, and which version you have. The version is at the bottom of the Help menu, for example "Springle 0.3.2".

Quit and Reopen Springle

Many hiccups clear with a fresh start. In the menu bar, choose Help › Quit and Reopen Springle. It stops any conversation, closes Springle, and opens it again a few seconds later. Your notebook, settings and connected apps aren’t touched.

If Springle doesn’t respond at all, choose Quit Springle from its menu, then open it again from your Applications folder.

What working looks like

The island at rest in the notch, pointer on it
  1. The notebook and Talk, on the left.
  2. The island, where Springle lives.
  3. Type and Settings, on the right.

After a reopen, Springle’s face is back in the menu bar and the island answers when you point at it or press ⌃ control ⌥ option.
