Every finished task leaves a receipt.
When Springle finishes a task, the card shows what it did, step by step. Save the steps as a how-to and they’re in your notebook for next time.
When Springle finishes a task, it doesn’t only say "done". The card shows a short receipt: what was done, in one line, and each step behind it. You can check what happened, and keep the steps to use again.
The receipt
Under Springle’s reply sits the receipt: a green check, a one-line summary, and N steps · see what Springle did. The receipt is how you know the task is done.

- 1Springle’s reply, in its own words.
- 2The green check and what was done, in one line.
- 3Save keeps the steps as a how-to.
- 4How many steps it took. Click to see each one.
Before Springle calls a task done, it checks the result where it can, for example that the page it was meant to open is the one on screen. If part of a task couldn’t be done, Springle tells you what’s left instead of showing a receipt.
The receipt stays until you ask for something else.
Seeing each step
Click the receipt to open it. Each step is listed in plain words, numbered in the order Springle did them. Click again to fold it.

- 1The summary, with an arrow to fold the steps away.
- 2Each step Springle took, in order.
- 3Save as a how-to, with a reminder of what it’s for: using it again next time.
If you’re reading a long reply in the bigger card, the receipt shrinks to a small N steps button at the bottom. Click it to see the steps.
Saving it as a how-to
Click Save (or Save as a how-to with the steps open). The receipt then says Saved as a how-to, and the button changes to Open, which takes you straight to it in your notebook.

- 1Open shows it in your notebook.
- 2Saved as a how-to, in your notebook now.
You can also say "keep how we did that" after a task. Springle may offer the same, once, after a longer task.
Save appears when a task took three steps or more and nothing in the steps is private. It doesn’t appear again if you saved a how-to with almost the same name in the last ten minutes.
Where how-tos go
Saved how-tos live in your notebook, with your other notes. Open it with the book icon beside the island, Open Notebook in the menu bar, or ⌃ control ⌥ option N. Search for it the way you’d ask: "how-to photo", "reply to Sam".
A how-to in the notebook shows its steps as a checklist. Tick each one off as you go. It also has:
- Walk me through it: Springle goes through the steps with you again, one at a time.
- Print step card: a printed copy of the steps, to keep by the computer.
When the card is folded
If the card is folded into the island when a task finishes, the band beside Springle’s face shows the one-line receipt, with a green check on the right of the island, for about four seconds. Point at the island to open the card and see the full receipt.

- 1Springle’s face, happy that it’s done.
- 2The one-line receipt: what was done.
- 3The green check on the right of the island.
This is how it looks with the Captions and Full card styles. With Quiet, a strip under the notch says Done, with the one-line receipt and the number of steps. See Captions, Quiet and Full card.
Separately from how-tos, Springle remembers which steps worked for a finished task, on this Mac only, so the same job goes more smoothly next time. That isn’t a note, and it doesn’t appear in your notebook.
